Coffee Culture
My love of coffee started with my grandparents hiding coffee candies in their pockets for me to enjoy. Finding those little wrapped treasures ingrained that flavor into my memory. We are all drawn to the experiences that shape our lives. Coffee Culture has those stories.
We want to feel the energy of people, smell the roasted coffee beans and wrap out hands around a hot cup of connection.

Company culture was a hot topic in 2020 due to the worldwide work from home the pandemic imposed on us. My show was born into that conversation. Enter Seth Godin and his book, ‘This is Marketing’. He said one line that shifted the axis of my show from conversations about company culture from the C suite to emerging leaders. What was that line? Culture is strategy.

Laura Cathcart Robbins turned a viral essay into a podcast called The Only One In the Room. And she turned her pain into pages with a memoir called Stash, My Life in Hiding that's out now! When she was 44 Laura Cathcart Robbins got sober. That was almost 15 years ago. In the recovery community, it's all about meeting for coffee, it's coffee after the meeting, it's coffee before the meeting. It's coffee. That's how you connect, because we don't meet for drinks anymore, right? Every coffee house became like a haven for her during that time, especially those first couple years.

My show was created around the idea that we all crave connection. And that we use the coffee meetup as a tool to see each other. It’s about being together, not the caffeine hit. Humans are social creatures. We have an innate need for connection.
Coffee is a beverage with a long history and a rich cultural heritage. As such, there are many traditions and rituals associated with drinking coffee around the world.
Today I'm going to talk about a thorny or topic, we're going to get into brewing troubles and explore the challenges in the coffee supply chain. So there are several issues and problems that can occur throughout the coffee supply chain.
There are several movies that feature coffee and the coffee industry as a central theme or plot element. I will share a few examples. I do love coffee as you know, but I’m obsessed with cooking shows. Oftentimes they cook with coffee! I recently binged the Big Brunch with Dan Levy. You’ll love that one if you love brunch and espresso martinis! Plus he’s so sweet and the challenges are scrumptious!

Did you know that light roast has more caffeine than dark roast!!! We all know coffee is a complex mixture of chemicals that give the beverage its unique aroma, taste and effects on the body. The main active ingredient in coffee is caffeine, which is a natural stimulant. It's my favorite one. When consumed, caffeine is absorbed by the stomach and small intestine and then passes into the bloodstream. It then travels to the brain where it blocks the action of a neurotransmitter called adenosine. This helps to promote sleep and relaxation. This results in increased alertness and energy as well as improved mood and cognitive function.
My topic today is can you drink coffee while intermittent fasting, the benefits and the risks. I've personally tried intermittent fasting. It's purported to set the stage for a longer life, a leaner body and a sharper mind. More modern day warriors seeking health hacks are trying to improve the sharpness of their minds and are using it by creating a 10 to 14 hour window where they do not consume food. I've had success by incorporating it into my sleeping hours.

I want to be a napper. When I actually nap I wonder to myself, why don’t I do this more often? Do you nap? Do you ditch the nap for caffeine or performance drinks? What if there was a happy marriage of both?
